At the end of 2020, an agreement has been reached between the United Kingdom and the EU. This means that a regulated Brexit is taking place.
With the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU, the fundamental freedom of the movement of goods will cease to exist and the country will be regarded as a third country. We therefore recommend that you familiarise yourself with the necessary customs formalities in good time.
We continue to supply you with DAP – What does this mean for you after Brexit?
- Meusburger continues to supply you with DAP (Delivered At Place) after Brexit. i.e. we continue to bear the transport costs.
- You bear the customs costs and import turnover tax.
- We recommend to bundle small orders, as this reduces your import costs.
- Our forwarding partners can handle the import. The freight forwarder contacts the consignee or the consignee's customs clearance agent to obtain the customs clearance instructions. After customs clearance, the goods are delivered.
- In the case of third-party importation, which is not carried out by our forwarding partners, time delays must be expected. In addition, storage charges and delivery costs may apply.
Apply now for your EORI number
- Please make sure to fulfil the necessary import requirements so that the export and import can be carried out. For this purpose, an EORI number must be available.
- The EORI number is used for the registration and identification of economic operators and is a prerequisite for the declaration of imports and exports at customs.
- An application is free and non-binding: https://www.gov.uk/eori
- The EORI number must be listed on the invoice for deliveries to the UK.
- We ask you to communicate your EORI number before placing an order so that we can avoid possible delays due to data collection.

Deliveries to Northern Ireland
- Northern Ireland remains part of the UK customs territory, but EU trade rules continue to apply.
- Northern Ireland is treated for customs purposes as if it were part of the customs territory of the EU. Therefore, no export or import is required for shipments to Northern Ireland.
- The VAT numbers will be given the country code "XI".
- We ask you to inform us of your new VAT number. This will enable us to carry out the necessary checks before delivery and avoid possible delays in processing.
We are prepared for Brexit at Meusburger
- We are able to carry out the customs clearance for Brexit according to the requirements. However, as with any third country transaction, there may be delays caused by customs.
- Delivery time changes: in order to keep lead times as short as possible even after Brexit has come into force, we are in close contact with our forwarding agents.
In addition to this, however, the lead times also depend on factors that cannot be influenced by us. This concerns, for example, the Dover/Kent infrastructure, the Channel Tunnel or the capacities of the customs agencies.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Best regards,
Your Meusburger team
